Seafood recipes

As far as shellfish go, crab is the crème de la crème of the lot. Their sweet meat is perfect for fashionable occasions, and the favored hors d’oeurves, crab cakes, are among the easiest seafood recipes.

To make crab cakes, one of the easiest seafood recipes, you need:
• 12 oz crab meat
• 1 T pesto
• 1 egg
• 1 T heavy cream
• 1 T mayo
• dash cayenne

Mix all the ingredients together and then form them into to 6-8” patties. Fry them in butter on medium heat until they are golden brown and crispy, and that’s it! As you can see, crab cakes are among the simplest seafood recipes.

Q: What’s a shellfish?
A: Shellfish includes clams, mussels, oysters, winkles, scallops, shrimp, prawn, lobster, crayfish, and crabs. These are popular among seafood dishes and have unique tastes.

Q: How do I know if my fish is fresh?
A: Fish that have clouded eyes and a (ironically) fishy smell are usually less fresh. Those with red gills, non-cloudy eyes and shiny flesh are fresh and better for consumption.

Q: What’s the tap test?
A: A tap test is valuable to determine if a shellfish is alive or not. Live shellfish will close up when they’re touched; dead animals do not.
